Hey guys. Thanks for all the support but I'm back home since a couple hours. Couldn't bare the lonliness on the road anymore. I'll post my diary here in a couple of days.

Off to England. But what’s in the bag?

March 31st, 2009
This is part of: 6 day trip to England

A lot of people ask me what I put in my Backpack if go for a trip. Actually, it depends on what kind of trip I’m going. To be true, I never made a check-list before, and I always ended up forgetting the most important stuff. That is the time when I make a promise to myself to make a short list, so it won’t happen again on the next trip. Of course I keep forgetting to make such a list when I’m back home :D

But not any more! So here are the things that will go in my bag for this 6 days trip in an more friendly environment (keep in mind that weight is most important factor! 1 kilo can make a lot of difference if you will wear your bag for a couple of weeks):

Clothes:

  • The clothes you are wearing (shirt, sweater, shoes, and hopefully some pants)
  • 4 fresh pair of socks
  • 4 pairs of underware (6 days… You do the math :p)
  • Rainjacket
  • A pair of shorts
  • 3 shirts
  • 2 sweaters

Food and drinks:

  • A bottle of water. Save the bottle, you can always refill it somewhere quick
  • Some food in cans
  • Some pottery
  • And some beer too

Stuff to clean yourself:

  • Toothbrush and toothpaste
  • 1 towel
  • Deodorant (so you can cover your oder from several days on the road)
  • Shampoo
  • A roll of toilet paper (yeah, that is also ‘cleaning’)

Stuff that could be useful:

  • Mobile phone and adaptor to recharge
  • 3 empty garbage bags
  • Swiss army knife
  • Something to start a fire with
  • Ductape
  • A pen or marker
  • Some cardboard (to make lovely signs for hitchhiking)
  • Your camera for memories
  • Extra batteries to feed to your camera
  • A map, even if it’s a really small one
  • Some rope/elastics (parachute rope is good, because it is made of a lot of small wires)
  • Flashlight
  • Can-opener
  • And some money of course

Sleeping gear:

  • Sleeping bag to start with
  • Inflatable mattress
  • Camping pillow

Documents:

  • First: clean out your wallet. You won’t need your library pass
  • Your ID and other paperwork you need. Also try to make a copy and put it somewhere deep in your bag in case you loose your original
  • Addresses of family/friends

And…

The only thing I forgot to do, is preparing the trip. All I know is that we are going to England, but I have no clue when there will be a ferry, and where we will spend the night… Ah, just love it! :D

Shit, will miss my train. See you.
